Raindrop Aromatherapy Massage in Calgary: What to Expect
Essential oils, gentle massage and spinal reflexology, explained.

What is Raindrop aromatherapy massage?
Raindrop massage combines essential oils, gentle massage and reflexology to support relaxation. The technique was developed by Dr. Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils. Small amounts of oil are applied along the spine and feet, a little like raindrops falling, and then worked in with light touch and spinal reflexology.
What it aims to do
- Relaxation and stress relief: gentle touch with calming oils such as lavender and frankincense.
- Emotional support: aromas that many people find calming.
- Muscle comfort: oils such as peppermint and wintergreen are traditionally used to soothe sore muscles.
- A sense of balance: many people describe the session as grounding.
Aromatherapy is a complementary approach. It is not a replacement for medical care.
Oils commonly used
- Thyme, oregano, basil, cypress, peppermint, wintergreen, marjoram, lavender and frankincense.
- Oils are chosen for their aroma and traditional use. Your therapist will explain which oils they use.
Possible benefits
- Stress reduction when gentle massage is combined with calming scents.
- Better sleep for some people, especially with relaxing oils such as lavender.
- Relief from muscle tension and tension headaches for some people.
- Improved circulation from the massage itself.
- A clearer, calmer mind for some people.
Safety notes
- Some people are sensitive to essential oils. Tell your therapist about any allergies or sensitivities before your session.
- If you are pregnant, or have a skin condition or asthma, check with your healthcare provider before booking.
- You can ask your therapist about preferred oils, but most therapists use their own.
Common questions
How long is a session?
Sessions run from 45 to 90 minutes depending on the therapist and your needs. See the service page for the lengths we offer.
How often should I book?
For general relaxation, once a month may be enough. If you are managing stress or discomfort, weekly or every second week may be suggested.
How is it different from a regular massage?
A regular massage focuses on muscle and soft tissue. Raindrop massage adds the aroma and application of essential oils, so the experience is more about scent and calm.
Can I do it at home?
A trained therapist should perform the full technique, mainly for correct technique and safe use of oils.
What should I do afterwards?
Drink water and rest. Some people feel a little tired or have a mild headache for a few hours. Contact us if it continues.
